Fehmarn introduces itself

Fehmarn is also called the "sun island", since it is one of the sunniest places in Germany. On average, it has 2,100 hours of sunshine per year. Due to the many hours of sunshine and the mild climate, the island is a popular holiday destination and welcomes 2.5 million tourists every year.

Burg

Almost half of the 13,000 inhabitants live in Burg. The city is the cultural and economic center of the island. With its picturesque houses, quiet streets and beautiful restaurants, the city is also a popular excursion destination for visitors.

 

Orth

Orth is a harbor settlement in the southeast of the island. The place is especially known for its bay (Ortherreede), as it offers ideal surfing conditions - even for beginners!

 

Burgtiefe

3 km from Burg you find Burgtiefe. Here is the holiday center and the tourist service is located here. Visitors often prefer due to the fantastic sandy beach. The kilometer-long sandy beach of the south beach offers everything that makes the holiday heart beat faster: a well-kept sand beach with beach chairs, toilets and showers, sports and beach volleyball courts, the swimming facility FehMare, the Vitarium and much more

 

Puttgarden

The village on the north side of the island is known for its ferry port. From the Molenkopf you can watch the big ships.

Fehmarnsundbrücke

Since 1963 the Fehmarnsund Bridge connects the island with the Schleswig-Holstein mainland. The bridge is lovingly called 'coat hanger' and since 1999 the bridge has been protected as an historic site.

The bridge is an important part of a large transport project that connects Hamburg and Copenhagen.

The bridge was for years the largest construction site in Schleswig-Holstein and favored tourism development on Fehmarn.

Fehmarn offers kilometers of sandy beaches:

• Nordstrand: A very popular natural beach between Puttgarden and 'Grüner Brink'.

• Weststrand: Long sandy beach ideal for ball games and plenty of space for sandcastles.

• South Beach: The South of the island is the tourist center and South Beach in Burgtiefe is the most popular beach on the island

Europe's highest artificial climbing facility (up to 40 meters high) with 14 routes. Children have to be minimum 110 cm tall.

 

Soccergolf

Combination of minigolf and football. The goal of the game is to score the football with as few kicks as possible.

 

Farmworld Fehmarn

On an exhibition space of almost 100 m², the miniature Farmworld shows modern agriculture in the course of the seasons.

 

Adventure Übersee

The expedition museum in Burgstaaken invites visitors to a time travel. Arriving in 1904, the visitor explores distant countries and treasures of sunken cultures.

 

Galileo Wissenswelt

Museum to touch, participate and learn. Thematic journey from the origin of the earth to the present.

 

Maritim Center Fehmarn

One of the largest aquarium plants in Europe. The marine center is the home of thousands of tropical marine animals and in the shark world you can see, among other things, sand tiger, lemon and nurse sharks.

 

Butterfly Park

Large Butterfly Park in Burg with large outdoor area. 600-1,000 moths and up to 100 different species live in the park.

 

Airfield Fehmarn

Germany's smallest airfield is located in Neujellingsdorf on Fehmarn. Flights over the island and the Baltic Sea can be booked

 

Waterpark

Large fun pool with water slide, outdoor pool and children's area. A sauna area with panoramic sauna and sun deck are also part of the swimming area. Cosmetic treatments and massages can be booked.

 

Shopping

On Fehmarn you can do shopping perfectly. There is a large selection of shops in the capital of the island, and a weekly market is held every Wednesday (8-14 hours). Another highlight is the floating shopping center at the ferry port of Puttgarden. The rest of the island is also well-developed with many smaller shops, farm shops and grocery stores.

Kitesurfing

Fehmarn is very popular for kite surfers and offers great surf spots for every level. There are many kitesurfing schools on the island.

 

Windsurfing

Amongst the windsurfers Fehmarn is also called the Hawaii of the north. It offers 17 surf areas and for each level is a suitable surf spot to find. Many surf schools offer courses.

 

Sailing

Also for sailors, the Sonneninsel offers a lot of good wind conditions, a comprehensive boat infrastructure and its geographic location. There are a total of five marina ports on the island.

 

SUP - Stand Up Paddling

There are many options for stand up paddling around the island. Many surf schools also offer courses for SUP. On windless days, it is a great way to explore the coast and improve your fitness through the whole body workout.

 

Diving

There are 10 diving spots on Fehmarn, which can be explored all year round. The best time is from May to September when the underwater world is the most active. The visibility is up to 15 m. In total, there are three dive bases with diving courses.

 

Fishing

Whether fishing boats, boat mooring, fishing or spinning / fly fishing, Fehmarn is an ideal place for fishing. The best fishing season is from May to September.

 

Biking

The island can be perfectly explored by bike. More than 300 km of cycling trails are available to the cyclists. The cycle paths are well integrated into the landscape, so natural beaches, inland lakes or cliffs can be easily reached or explored.

Nature

Naturwiese Fehmarn

NABU Wasservogelreservat Wallnau

The 300-hectare reserve on the west coast of Fehmarn is one of the most ecologically valuable regions in northern Germany. In observation huts and a view tower the bird world can be observed at close range.

 

Fehmarn is a very important resting place for migratory birds: tens thousands birds visit the island on their trip.

 

Nature conservation Area 'Grüner Brink'

The nature park 'Grüner Brink' is situated in the north of the island. Directly next to the nature reserve is one of the most popular beaches of Fehmarn. The beach is DRLG monitored and due to its flat water, the beach is particularly suitable for children.
